I’ve always been fascinater by the amazing 2D natural pattern of decorative Iranian tiles. Once I was travelling ,I came across the trees covered up with roots. The roots have grown on the tree’s trunk and they’ve made a beautiful pattern on the tree. I wondered what if I could design tiles that can have the same quality as roots( not only creating a pattern but also carrying water)

I came up with the idea of using the principles of evaporation cooling, an ancient technique that uses water and local material to lower tempreture. Terra cotta was chosen because it is robust and malleable. When the air passes through the terracotta screan, it’s naturally cooled the same way the water styas cool in pot.

The pattern that have been created by tiles recall the Mashribiyah screens. The Mashrabia is an archetype of ancient Iranian architecture denoting an oriel screen wall or window made of latticework. It functions as a social barrier and environmental filter. The pattern is designed to contorl the orientation of light and the movement of air.
