Anahita Shahamati

January 14, 2025Admin

Born in 1993, Ani Shahamati is an Iranian artist based in Tehran, where she has exhibited her paintings, installations, sculptures and art objects in solo and group exhibitions. Ani studied Medicine at Shahid Beheshti University and graduated as a general practitioner in 2019. During the course of her studies

She continued to explore various media such as painting, videography and editing, photography, interior and floral design. After graduating she began her practice as an artist without academic references, followed by her first solo exhibition a year after.

Ani’s sensitivity towards combining these diverse techniques and tools, along with her first-hand knowledge of biological processes and systems allows her to navigate the fine balance between what is repulsive and visceral yet cozy, visual innovations that appear to be artifacts from some unknown animated

world, growing, consuming and wriggling around.

In this exhibition, with a series of installations, sculptures and paintings Anahita Shahamati has imagined a novel ecosystem of her own, a sort of artificial nature, in which various branches of parallel biological systems evolve, interact with and turn into each other.

Anahita is particularly inspired by the formation of natural phenomena, both from a microscopic view, as the initial moments when the first life-forms begin to emerge, and a telescopic perspective; non-living matters fragmenting and forming inanimate masses. By combining and creating a range of textures,

shapes, and materials she has developed a diversity. This in itself is inspired by the processes where simple and limited building blocks of the universe turn and

multiply into an amazing variety of life, through the gradual and consistent trial-error mechanism of evolution.
