Born in 1994 in Tehran, Maryam Behrouzinia finished her studies in architecture in 2018 and established her own studio in 2019. She set out an exploration of media such as photography, drawing and sculpture during a period of four years and then started conceptual experiments in her personal studio, urban spaces and natural environment. Natural forms found their way into her abstract sculptures through her involvement with macro photography of natural details and being attentive to nature’s specific features. Natural material such as wool, paper, charcoal and graphite constituted the major part of her working material since her early experiences in sculpture. Creating works in nature with the available material dependent on the spatial structure has gradually become part of the process of her artistic expression. She merged her personal experiences in self-awareness and contemplating her soul and existence with diverse techniques in sculpture alongside utilizing various tools and elements in order to create conceptual works and abstract forms.

Dialectics of Illusion and Reality
Exploring to know and understand the workings of the interaction between my mental world and the real world leads to my living in an abyss between the two. This way of being has brought about my persistent presence in this in-between abyss, a process that has engendered a recurrent pattern through which I strive to outwardly visualize the expansion of my mental limits in diverse forms.
At times, the desire to wander in the real world takes the form of tens of kilometers of flowing line, formed under the impact of my mental world, my body and the place of my presence.
