Life of Tree

Pattern beyond a Repetitive Geometrical Motif

Nature is the main source of patterns. There are visible recurrences in living creatures such as breathing, eating and reproduction. In mammals, for instance, similar patterns include mating, caressing, walking and sleeping. Natural patterns continue to evolve during life cycles and are referred to as  “dynamic patterns”.

A TREE, as a living creature, has “visual patterns” in addition to its vital patterns. Visual patterns change as a tree grows.

This growth occurs along two axises, horizontal and vertical:

Horizontal Axis – As the tree gets older, the number of rings in the tree cross section increases and the tree trunk gets thicker.

Vertical Axis: As the tree gets older it also gets taller.

Trees horizontal growth directly effects the forms of vertical patterns and with growth rings the vertical motifs change. These vertical patterns present a visual abstract more exquisite than a sophisticated art frame. Inside a tree is indeed a hidden treasure.

Tree rings resemble our life lengths thus the changing vertical patterns are our everyday habits.

The question is how much do we care about the quality and dynamics of our habits? Do we take care of patterns of our moments? Because they can truly change our lives’ image and make it more inspiring and meaningful
